FIDC Announces Appointment of New Managing Director

FIDC Press Release

25th September 2026

The Falkland Islands Development Corporation (FIDC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Josh Smith as its new Managing Director, subject to final relocation arrangements.

Josh will succeed Zachary Franklin, who will conclude his tenure with FIDC in December following a period of dedicated service to the organisation and the wider Falkland Islands community.

Chair of FIDC, Michael Poole, welcomed the appointment:

“Following a highly competitive recruitment process, the Board is delighted to appoint Josh as Managing Director of FIDC. He brings a strong combination of leadership, commercial experience and strategic vision, which will be invaluable as FIDC continues its work to support economic development, investment and business growth across the Falkland Islands.”

Josh has built an international career over the past two decades, holding senior leadership positions in the UK Civil Service and previously working in Canada, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia across economic development, trade, innovation and public policy. He brings extensive experience of working with governments, businesses and communities to deliver economic growth and strategic investment and we look forward to benefiting from his expertise as FIDC continues to support the long-term prosperity of the Falkland Islands.

The Board also paid tribute to Zach’s contribution during his time with the organisation.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Zach for his commitment and contribution to FIDC. His leadership has helped guide the organisation through an important period, and we wish him every success in the future.”

Speaking following his appointment, Josh said:

“I am delighted to be joining FIDC and look forward to working with the Board, staff, government, businesses and the wider community. FIDC has an important role in supporting sustainable economic growth in the Falkland Islands and I am excited to contribute to that work.”

Further details regarding transition arrangements will be announced in due course.
