FIDC Marks Wool Warehouse Project Complete for 2025/2026 Season

With the signing of final documents between the Falkland Islands Development Corporation (FIDC), construction company Falkland Islands Company (FIC), and tenant Falkland Islands Wool Company (WoolCo), the Wool Warehouse was completed, and will now serve as the primary storage facility for all wool producers across the Falkland Islands prior to bales being exported to overseas markets.

This follows WoolCo moving into the Wool Warehouse in August 2025 to ensure bale deliveries could be met in September for the start of the 2025/2026 season.

Since November 2022, construction works have taken place at the Wool Warehouse, which had an initial anticipated completion of May 2023, but was only completed in April 2025, approximately 23 months behind schedule.

The project suffered numerous delays throughout the process, including the need for construction remedial works to the roof, and repeated requests to Falkland Islands Government Public Works Department (FIG, PWD) for connection to the Stanley power grid.

Construction concluded on the Wool Warehouse April 2025.

By July 2025, FIG Planning & Building had completed inspection of the Wool Warehouse, certifying the building for occupancy.

At the January 2025 FIDC Board meeting, the Board requested a summary report outlining the timeline of completion for the Wool Warehouse project, which also noted the points that contributed to delays in the on-time completion of the project, and outlining lessons learned for FIDC.
