Hillside Business Park – Falklands Apothecary

Baron Brunton-Goss is excited to announce the next chapter for Falkland Apothecary a new Falkland Islands–based business created with a clear objective: to manufacture high quality products locally and contribute to the growth of the domestic gift and visitor market. The business will initially focus on the production of scented candles and soaps aimed at both the tourist market and local customer looking for unique, locally made gifts, with plans to launch these ranges in mid-2026 once sufficient stock has been built to support consistent supply.

Alongside its own manufactured products, Baron is also an Ambassador for the UK skincare company Tropic. Tropic’s strong ethical ethos, small batch production in England and use of high grade, chemical free ingredients aligns closely with the values behind Falklands Apothecary. A carefully selected range of Tropic skincare and makeup products is being imported to offer customers access to premium skincare locally, while also complementing the future in house product ranges.

The idea for Falklands Apothecary began nearly two years ago during a period off work with Covid. Drawing on a long career in retail, including experience in leading London stores, international sales and marketing work supporting the global growth of a UK equestrian brand, and five years as Store Manager and Buyer at Pro-Install in Stanley, the founder identified a clear opportunity for locally made, high quality products. This venture is being developed alongside full time employment with FIGAS, with the business initially operating on days off to allow for sustainable, measured growth.

Early plans focused on converting a shipping container into a home-based workshop, however this option proved to be a costly way to start trading and led to delays. A conversation with FIDC helped unlock an alternative solution. Following advice from FIDC, the founder explored the option of leasing a cabin at Hillside Business Park. While this had not originally been considered due to concerns around overheads, it quickly became clear that the costs were manageable and offered significant additional benefits.

Securing premises at Hillside Business Park has enabled Falklands Apothecary to begin setting up manufacturing facilities while also opening a small retail shop, something that had previously been seen as a long-term aspiration rather than an immediate possibility. The location allows the business to start small, maintain low overheads, and benefit from being located next door to the FIDC offices, providing easy access to ongoing advice and guidance as the business develops.

The business has been fully self-funded to date, allowing it to progress without borrowing. Utilising the FIDC Small Business Support Grant has played a key role in helping to fit out the retail space, turning what was once a pipe dream into a practical and achievable next step. This support has allowed investment to be focused where it matters most, from manufacturing equipment to expanding the Tropic skincare offering and planning future product development.

With realistic overheads, continued access to expert support from FIDC, and a clear phased growth plan, Falklands Apothecary is well positioned for sustainable development. Baron demonstrates how local manufacturing can be achieved through careful planning, personal investment, and the right support at the right time, contributing to greater product choice for residents and visitors while strengthening the local economy.

Cabins at Hillside Business Park are available in full or half options. Our team is ready to provide business and financial advice, assist with business plan development, and help complete the application form.
