Fox Bay Community Garden

In April 2024, FIDC contributed £500 to support the Fox Bay Community Garden. This funding enabled the purchase of essential tools and consumables for the polytunnel, helping to sustain and expand the gardening initiative.

The Community Garden was developed in previously unused space, with the kind permission of the Falkland Islands Government, and led by Clare and Ben Cockwell and Sunny Cooper. It serves as a dedicated communal growing space, fostering a sense of community while also providing an educational platform for the students of Fox Bay. Through hands-on experience, children learn valuable skills in gardening, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

Over the past year, the project has flourished, with the introduction of a weekly Gardening Club at the local school. This initiative has not only engaged young learners but also yielded an abundance of fresh produce. The harvest has been generously shared with students families and local residents who may not have access to their own garden. The hard work and dedication of all involved has been truly rewarding, with the garden’s thriving crops recently earning recognition and prizes at the Horticultural Show, a testament to the success of this community-driven endeavour.
